While vanadium intake may be productive, possibly even necessary, it should be accomplished through food intake to prevent possible complications. Any dietary supplemental regimen containing vanadium should be strictly monitored by a medical professional. The effects of vanadium on diabetes may hold promise, but potentially greater promise has been seen in other, safer applications.
if aloe is used as a treatment for diabetes, and it proves effective, blood sugar levels could fall too low, necessitating a reduction in medication dosage. Close monitoring of blood sugar levels is, therefore, advised. 1 Tbl twice a day
It has been suggested that ginkgo might cause problems for people with type 2 diabetes both by altering blood levels of medications as well as by directly affecting the blood-sugar regulating system of the body.95,145 However, the most recent and best designed studies have failed to find any such actions.146-147 Nonetheless, until this situation is clarified, people with diabetes should use ginkgo only under physician supervision.
You may need extra chromium if you are taking calcium carbonate supplements.
Cinnamon
Good overveiw summary article. Patients with poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c > 6.5-7%) should not rely on cinnamon alone in order to achieve better glucose control. However, for those patients seeking small reductions in glucose in order to tighten control a trial of cinnamon supplementation appears to be safe and may result in small improvements.
Using Cassia cinnamon can expose one to dangerously high levels of the hepatotoxic and carcinogenic phytochemical 'Coumarin' when superloaded, thus if superloading cinnamon Ceylon (Indonesian) should always be used. Doses for diabetic effects range from 1-6g cinnamon daily, taken with carbohydrate containing meals.
cassia can contain high levels of coumarin, a naturally occurring ingredient that, when eaten in large enough amounts, can cause reversible liver toxicity in a small group of individuals sensitive to it. Some experts suggest investing instead in Ceylon cinnamon, inct from but related to cassia.
A study showed 1 - 6 grams of cinnamon per day to be beneficial. The results of this study demonstrate that intake of 1, 3, or 6 g of cinnamon per day reduces serum glucose, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes and suggest that the inclusion of cinnamon in the diet of people with type 2 diabetes will reduce risk factors associated with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
The maintenance of lower serum glucose and lipid levels, even when the individuals were not consuming cinnamon for 20 days, denotes sustained effects of cinnamon, indicating that cinnamon would not need to be consumed every day.
Meta study was promising.
Contrary advice: Even at the extreme of the confidence interval, cinnamon has, at best, 10% of the efficacy of drug treatments. At worst, it’s completely ineffective.
Exercise
Aerobic exercise can acutely improve insulin resistance by increasing uptake of glucose into cells. It can increase insulin sensitivity immediately.
